KERAKOLL GROUP arrives in India, with the inauguration of three new logistics centres in Mumbai, Bangalore and Salem.

Annual turnover when fully operational in India is expected to equal 5 million Euros.
Work has started on the new terminal at Delhi International Airport.

Kerakoll Group, a world leader in products and services for sustainable building, historical restoration and interior design, increases its international presence and arrives in India, with the inauguration of three new logistics centres, directed by Hemant K. Jain, a local manager with considerable experience in the sector.

The main headquarters in Mumbai, with offices and warehouses giving a total area of over 1,000 m2, is backed by an additional logistics centre at Bangalore and by a further distribution centre in Salem, giving the Group a widespread presence within the territory so as to guarantee quality in terms of delivery times and technical assistance.

The Indian sales network, which has a workforce of 45, is estimated to produce an annual turnover of approximately 5 million Euros when fully operational, thanks to the high potential of the local market.

The building sector in India has seen considerable growth over recent years, following heavy investment in residential building (which represents over 74% of the market), together with non-residential building and public expenditure in infrastructure.

The lack of housing, the need for the redevelopment of a large part of existing buildings, the lack of infrastructure and the need for commercial and industrial premises are the main factors behind this development in the building and infrastructure sector in India.

In particular, according to the estimates drawn up by the National Building Association, by 2021 it is calculated that there will be a need for 77 million residential housing units in urban areas, and over 63 million in country areas.

With reference to non-residential development, in the eight main cities the demand for office space has risen from 3.5 million sq ft in 1998 to 16 million sq ft in 2004, and reached 85 million sq ft in 2008. The demand is mainly concentrated in the so-called Central Business Districts of Mumbai and Delhi, although there is also considerable growth in other cities such as Bangalore, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata.

Likewise there is great interest in infrastructure and large projects, with an expected investment of 500 billion dollars over the next five years in energy, ports, roads, underground rail networks, and goods transport by rail.

It is in this context that Kerakoll has become involved in the construction of the new Terminal 3 at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, managed by GMR, one of the most important infrastructure companies in the Country, through the joint venture DIAL (Delhi International Airport Limited), which has been set up to extend the airport itself and run it for 30 years, and has assigned planning to HOK, an organisation that operates in 24 countries with a staff of over 2,000.

The plan is to bring the airport’s handling capacity from the current 20 million up to 60 million passengers per year, also creating a new runway, and the main operation is the construction of a new 250,000 m2 Terminal, which alone will be capable of handling 34 million passengers per year and 55 aircraft.

Completion of the work, which has just started, is expected to take place on 31st March 2010, just in time for the Commonwealth Games, which are to be held the following October, for the first time in India and for the second time in Asia.

The idea behind the plans for Terminal 3 is to create an environment with muted colours that is mainly illuminated by natural light. The arrivals area in particular has been designed to give a truly memorable welcome to India.

Great attention has been given to the flooring. The material selected is natural stone, which will give the feel required for the project: approximately 100,000 m2 will be made of granite from Barhain, Saudi Bianco, with inserts in Indian Kashmiri Gold and GB4 granites, all in 80×80 cm slabs.

To carry out the work, the Kerakoll India team supported GMR’s planners by means of site and laboratory tests so as to recommend the best possible laying cycle; a number of tests were also carried out in the Kerakoll research and development centre to evaluate the behaviour of the local stones and sand, adhesion to the stones, the bearing characteristics and resistances of the screed and finally the performance of the entire system when laid.

Today, over 40% of the turnover for the Kerakoll Group is produced abroad, and this international role is destined to increase further still: the recent opening of commercial branches in Sweden, Portugal, Croatia and Hungary has brought the number of Countries in which the Group is present up to 15: in Spain, Poland and Greece the Group already boasts a direct presence with manufacturing plants, while in the remaining Countries the commercial presence is achieved through local partnerships or trading companies.

The international dimension of the company also emerges in the makeup of our management team. On the world markets the majority of managers are selected locally: at the head of the branches in USA, Singapore, Great Britain, Portugal, Sweden and Hungary there are managers from those specific geographical areas.

Power showers, shower cubicles, steam rooms, wet rooms made of water sensitive materials in hotels, guest houses, leisure centres, fitness centres, at work and even in our domestic environments are at risk of water penetration which puts these installations at great risk
It is often felt that the use of a water resistant pastes or cementitious adhesive and grout will suffice. This is not true. These materials will only resist the effects of water passage for a certain time. Power showers can generate a considerable amount of pressure, which can saturate the grout and adhesive and penetrate the substrate, subsequently causing failure of the tiling installation. A more comprehensive measure is then needed to prevent water penetration. This is why we recommend Bostik-Watertite tanking/ waterproof system in such areas.

Mapei Mapegum WPS Liquid elastic membrane for interior only waterproofing – Technical Data Sheet.
Liquid elastic membrane for interior only waterproofing. Mapegum WP is used for waterproofing walls and floors of bathrooms and shower recesses, kitchens and work surfaces, before installing ceramic tile or natural stone.
Applications:Mapegum WP is a grey-coloured single component paste with a synthetic resin base in a water dispersion, totally solvent free, with a thixotropic viscosity that allows easy application on horizontal, inclined and vertical surfaces. After the rapid evaporation of the water it forms a non-sticky elastic sheath, with excellent resistance to water, tenacity suitable for light traffic, that provides a highly adhesive surface for adhesives used for ceramic tile, marble and natural stone. Mapegum WP can be applied by trowel, roller, brush or spray (if necessary dilute with a maximum of 5% water) on substrates that are solid, clean, dry, free from oils, grease, old paint or other substances that may interfere with bonding. Mapegum WP must be applied evenly in thin layers (about 1 mm maximum per coat). Wait for the first coat to dry before applying successive crossing coats (from about 1-2 hours depending on the environmental conditions).
Coverage:1.5 kg/m2 per mm of thickness.
Packing:25, 10 and 5 kg buckets.

Dampfast is a grey, flexible, 2-part waterproofing and sealing membrane that eliminates the need for a reinforcement layer and which is capable of curing in approximately 6 hours, therefore making it possible to tile on the same day.

Uses:

Ideal for waterproofing shower recesses, laundries, terraces, balconies, concrete roofs, water tanks, cement toppings, planter boxes, etc.

Features & Benefits:

· Dampfast is a flexible waterproofing membrane that eliminates the need for a reinforcement layer/matting, thus saving considerable application time and mess.
· Dampfast is capable of curing in approximately 6 hours at 20°C, therefore allowing for same day tiling.
· Dampfast once cured can be tiled over, using Davco`s cement based or two part adhesives.
· Dampfast is a flexible membrane enabling it to cater for limited floor movement while absorbing vibration.
· Being a waterproof membrane, Dampfast prevents surface water penetration, when applied correctly.
· Because Dampfast is an acrylic-cement based waterproofing membrane, it is non-hazardous and non-flammable.
· Dampfast has a creamy consistency, allowing it to be applied easily with a soft brush or roller.
· Dampfast can be used as a tanking membrane, where conventional one part acrylic membranes would fail. This makes Dampfast ideal for water tanks, fishponds and planter boxes.

An alkali-reactive waterproofing product based on alkali resistant synthetically modified
cement.The Davco K11 waterproofing concept is based on the crystallisation process. Davco K11
compounds combine with free water and other elements in the substrate to produce a
waterproof membrane. The unique and highly effective components of the Davco K11
systems chemically react within the pores and capillaries upon exposure to the moisture and
the elements. This chemical reaction initiates the formation of the crystalline structure within
the pores and capillaries, to become an integral part of the structure and block the passage of
water.Davco K11 is a brush or spray applied, Portland cement based system for
waterproofing concrete and masonry through the crystallisation process. Davco K11
waterproofs the positive side or the negative side of the substrate. Following proper
application, active water pressures force the crystal forming chemicals deeper into the subsurface
capillaries and pores to form a monolithic bond and become an integral part of
the structure.

Davco K11 is applied to interior or exterior below grade surfaces and between horizontal
structural slabs and toppings to protect against hydrostatic water pressure. These surfaces
include concrete, concrete block, brick and shotcrete.

DESCRIPTION
Dampfi x 2 is an acrylic, fibre reinforced waterproofing membrane used for waterproofing shower recesses,
bathrooms, laundries, roofs and decks. Dampfix 2 is part of a system.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
SURFACE PREPARATION
Surfaces must be firm, clean, dry, sound and smooth. All grease, oil, wax, curing compounds, dust droppings, loose material, paint and
any other contaminants must be removed. Timber and particleboard fl ooring must be sanded. Fibrous cement sheeting and water resistant
plasterboard must be fixed in accordance to the manufacturer’s directions. Allow concrete to cure for 28 days and cement render to cure for 7
days prior to the application of Dampfix 2. Porous surfaces must be primed with ASA Multiprime prior to the application of Dampfix 2.
ASA Multiprime is a synthetic latex based liquid which can be used for priming a variety of substrates prior to the use of ASA water-based
waterproofing membranes. ASA Multiprime eliminates dust and reduces porosity of plasterboard, fibrous cement sheeting, porous concrete
and timber floors.
ASA Multiprime should be applied onto the correctly prepared surface using a brush, roller or sponge. Allow to dry for at least 30 minutes prior
to the application of Dampfix 2. ASA Multiprime is available in 20 litre, 5 litre and 1 litre plastic jerry cans.
ASA Multiprime is white in colour when applied, and dries clear.
PVC pipes must be primed with Bostik N40 Primer. Dense concrete and metal surfaces must be primed with ASA Multiprime – 2 Part.
ASA Multiprime – 2 Part is a two part epoxy primer specifi cally developed for use on non-porous substrates such as dense, smooth concrete,
existing tiles and ASA approved polyurethane membranes. ASA Multiprime – 2 Part provides a good bond coat prior to the application of
ASA approved tile adhesives, ASA self levelling compounds and ASA approved waterproofing membranes. ASA Multiprime – 2 Part is a
uniform blue liquid. ASA Multiprime – 2 Part is available in 20 litre, 8 litre and 4 litre kits.
Apply ASA Neutral Cure Silicone to all wall/wall joints, wall/fl oor joints, hob/wall and hob/fl oor joints. All sheet joints and fixings must also
be filled with ASA Neutral Cure Silicone, before applying a coat of Dampfix 2 over all sheet joints extending 100mm either side of the joint.
APPLICATION
The application of Dampfix 2 must comply with AS3740 2004 “Waterproofing of Internal Wet Areas in Residential Buildings”. Dampfix 2
should be applied using a brush or roller. It is advisable to wear protective gloves when applying Dampfix 2.
NOTE: a minimum thickness of 1mm dried Dampfix 2 is required for optimum waterproofing properties. The surface onto which the Dampfix
2 is applied must be continuous. Dampfix 2 cannot span gaps. Dampfix 2 must be applied at 1 litre per m2 per coat. Two coats are required.
Allow membrane to cure for a minimum of 24 hours between coats.
Shower Recesses
Apply Dampfix 2 to the internal vertical corners of the shower using a brush. Ensure the corner is well coated. This must extend past
the height of the shower rose. It is important to coat around tap protrusions in the wall. The wall/floor joint must be coated with Dampfix
2. The coat must extend onto the floor at least 100mm and onto the wall 100mm. Where the height of the hob is greater than 75mm, the
Dampfix 2 must extend at least 25mm above the height of the hob. The walls should then be coated. Once the wall/wall junctions, wall/
floor junctions, tap protrusions and walls are coated, then the shower floor must be coated. When coating the floor, the Dampfix 2 must be
dressed down into the waste at least 50mm. The floor must be coated with the Dampfix 2 ensuring a minimum thickness of 1mm. Allow to
dry for at least 24 hours (a longer time is needed in cold or humid conditions). Apply a final coat to ensure no imperfections are present in
the membrane. Allow 24 hours to fully cure.
Floors of Wet Areas and Decks
Apply Dampfix 2 to wall/floor junctions and sheet flooring joints and fixings using a brush, extending at least 100mm either side of the joint.
Once these areas are dry, the entire floor area can be coated. Sufficient Dampfix 2 must be applied onto the surface to achieve a 1mm
thick dried film. Allow to dry for a period of 24 hours (longer in cool and humid conditions). Apply a final coat to ensure no imperfections are
present in the membrane. Allow 24 hours to fully cure.
Roofs
Dampfix 2 is recommended as a waterproofing membrane for non-trafficable areas. Application is recommended as for “Floors of Wet Areas
and Decks”.
CLEAN UP
Clean tools and equipment with warm water and detergent while the membrane is still wet.

PACKAGING
20 litre, 10 litre and 4 litre plastic pails.
COVERAGE
Approximately 2 litres per m² at 1mm thick dried fi lm.
RECOMMENDATIONS TILE ADHESIVE
Wall Applications – ASA Asaflex, ASA Megafix (internal use only) or ASA Conflex
Floor Applications – ASA Asaflex, ASA Conflex, or ASA Fixall mixed with undiluted ASA Megalastic. Timber – ASA Asafl ex
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
During application of Dampfix 2, avoid contact with skin and eyes. Wear eye protection and gloves. Use in a well ventilated area. If contact with
skin occurs, fl ush eyes with copious quantities of clean water for at least 15 minutes and contact a physician. For more detailed information
refer to product MSDS.
SHELF LIFE
Unopened pails can be stored for up to 12 months in a cool, dry and weatherproof environment.
LIMITATIONS
• Dampfix 2 is not a vapour barrier nor is it designed to stop a hydrostatic head of water pressure (for this application, ASA Dampfix
Moisture Seal vapour barrier is recommended).
• Dampfix 2 should not be installed on wet, contaminated, or friable substrates.
• Dampfix 2 should not be applied if raining or if rain is imminent.
• Dampfix 2 should not be applied to surfaces with protective coatings without prior consultation with ASA.
• Rate of cure will be inhibited when air or substrate temperatures are below 5°C, or if applied over a vapour barrier.
• Dampfix 2 should not be applied over the recommended coverage of 1 litre per square metre and 1mm wet film thickness in one
application.
• Dampfix 2 requires atmospheric conditions to cure. It should not be used in totally confined or air free spaces.
• To eliminate possible surface contamination or damage, it is recommended that tiling, mortar bed application or fi nished flooring be
carried out as soon as possible after full cure of membrane application.
• Dampfix 2 must not be used as a wearing surface for foot or vehicle traffic.
• Any intended application of Dampfix 2 outside of intended use should be referred to ASA technical services for approval.
• Do not apply where the surface temperature is below 10°C or greater than 35°C.

The most common cause of leaking showers occur between the floor and wall joints of the shower recess.

* Up to 90% of showers built onto a stud wall will eventually leak as a result of normal (even minimal) building movement and vibrations such as those caused by opening and closing doors.
* The grouting cannot withstand the movement and the result is shower leakage via the gap/s between the floor and wall.
* Solid brick homes can also experience the same problem as leakage can occur between the wall and floor.
* Even showers with a shower tray/membrane can often only cope with small quantities of water, and are not equipped with self-drainage systems. Once the tray is full the overflow will leak into the floor and walls often being absorbed by woodwork and carpet in adjoining areas.
* As well as looking unsightly, these damp areas often smell, rot and attract white ants.
* Silicones and shower “plugging” products may work for a limited period (depending on the quality of the product and the amount of leakage). However, efforts to remove dirt/mould build-up exacerbate the problem as few of the sealants are resistant to abrasive powder cleansers and/or scouring brushes.

By totally preventing water from penetrating through the gaps and joins of the shower recess the Superseal Service provides a long-lasting, cost-effective solution.

On-site procedure

* The shower should be clean, dry and not be used the night before.
* A fully trained Superseal technician will assess the shower and explain what will be involved in the Superseal Service.
* A moisture meter used to determine the level of concealed water behind the tiles and a pressure gauge to indicate any possible plumbing problems.

Preparation

* Existing grout and sealant are removed where required from the angles of the shower walls, step and screen.
* Standard taps and handles are removed and all surfaces carefully prepared, cleaned and primed.

Superseal Applications

* Superseal is applied to the angles of the shower wall, around the edges of the floor waste, between the first row of tiles and around the shower base and hob.
* Superseal can be tinted as close as possible to match the tiles or grout.
* Cracks in the tiles may be Superseal at the discretion of the technician and the client.
