BATH CUBE WINS CEVISAMA BATHROOM DESIGN COMPETITION

“Bath Cube”, the design entered by Fernando Muñoz Cebrián, a student a the Escuela Superior de Gestión de la Edificación (School of Construction Management) at the PUV, has won the International Bathroom Equipment Design and Technological Innovation Competition organised by CEVISAMA. Cebrián wins 2,500 euros.

The competition rules set a theme for the entries, which was “Open source bathroom”.

According to the jury, Muñoz Cebrián’s work addresses the theme like no other. It highlighted the fact that this is “a bath that changes, that everyone in the house can use in accordance with their needs, a bath that can alter over time, adapt and improve.”

The second prize, of 2,000 euros, was awarded to “Evergreen Toilet” by Abel Llaría Orbegozo of the Logroño Advanced School of Art and Design. What impressed the jury with this piece of work was the way it interprets one element of the bathroom and gives it new, unprecedented worth by taking it out of context and making it an object of desire.

The 1,500 euro third prize was awarded to “Slay”, by UCH-CEU Valencia students Emilio Quilis Muñoz, Reyes Mora Sánchez y Jessica Navarro Ballester. The jury pointed out that the design is for a new type of product that centres on an object with soft lines that is also suitable for industrial production.

“Wave Source” by Dominika Kochanowska of the ETSGE-UPV received a commendation for the way she has designed the items organically in an intelligent approach to making them multi-functional.

The International Bathroom Equipment Competition received 290 entries for designs created in line with the “Open source bathroom” remit, with some 30 pieces of work coming from design schools abroad.

The jury was chaired by Rolando Giovannini, director of the ?Gaetano Ballardini’ Ceramic Arts Institute. Members included Mª Cristina Tommasini, editor in chief of Domus magazine, Carlos Torrente and Pau Roviras, of Roviras Torrente Industrial Design; Fran Raya, head of Product and Marketing a Ceracasa and Lutzia Ortiz, head of the Product Design Unit at ITC-Alicer.
