TAU and Porcelanatto are all about fashion, but they are also IN fashion; so Casa Decor Madrid 2010, the key event for architecture, decoration and interior design, which is being held in the Spanish capital from 20th May to 20th June, will have as many as four areas put together using materials from the two Tau Group brands. This result shows the unprecedented welcome given to the company’s ideas from industry professionals, who have the job of choosing the materials offering the best performances and features when it comes to putting across their designs and ideas in the finest living spaces.

On this occasion, the chosen venue is the large building at Calle Velázquez, 29, right at the heart of the exclusive Salamanca district of Madrid. To mark the eighteenth anniversary of the event, and just as Casa Decor has become the major European forum for exchanging ideas, showcasing new products and a platform for creativity, the professionals who have been asked to put together this year’s show have decided that TAU and Porcelanatto products should be used in as many as four parts of the home. Actually – and this proves just how versatile they are – they will be used both indoors and outdoors, showing that ceramics are the ideal material for all kinds of solution, even if it is very complex or completely new.

To go into more detail, Casa Decor Madrid will use pieces from the TAUfine version of the Corten Night range to cover one of the arches over the alcoves in the main entrance . This means that ceramics are becoming one of the most innovative materials not merely from an aesthetic angle but also from the architectural point of view, because they can make a real contribution to the energy efficiency and sustainability of buildings. The choice of this material, with its characteristic dark metallic finish, offers an incredibly attractive result, as it combines perfectly with the tone of the works which the well-known sculptor Víctor Ochoa will be installing in the public entrance to Casa Decor Madrid. The result will be a synthesis of components aiming to amalgamate and boost art in all of its expressive forms, whether in the volumes of a sculpture or in the perfect planimetry of a tile on a façade.
Once we get inside, we find three spaces which have arisen out of the creative experience of TAU and Porcelanatto. The result achieved in the home’s main bathroom is spectacular. It was designed by Guillermo García Hoz and this has become the first room exclusively using designs by Karim Rashid, the enfant terrible of design and international fashion who has won awards all over the world for his bold approach and ability to innovate. This area has been put together using the Poetic and Emotion Carbon models, both of which belong to the NO-Stalgia collection which the designer has developed for Porcelanatto, the TAU Group’s brand specialising in contract projects.

The result is something that combines the shock of the new with a hypnotic, constantly-changing effect produced by the symmetries of the pieces’ lines. Together with colour, this is certainly one of the most identifiable traits of Karim Rashid’s work. So Casa Decor Madrid will see a global first, as the Karim world enters the field of ceramic materials, an unmissable event for all trend-spotters.

Another key space at Casa Decor – and a meeting point for professionals visiting the show – is the cafe-bar, using a fusion of TAU and Porcelanatto products which only a few decorators such as Pepe Martín Puerto + Studio Artbe are capable of pulling off. What strikes you most about the room is the futuristic effect produced by TAU’s Corten B model at the entrance and on the floor of the bar, which combines perfectly with the motifs used by the design of the Desire series, from the NO-Stalgia collection, by Karim Rashid, used to cover the dining room. This is all about designer ceramics for people who want to stamp their own personalities on their homes. On this occasion, the designers Pepe Martin and Juan Artaza have plumped for the minimalism and restraint of the Jet model from the Desire series, whose depth and magnetism are only broken up by the ends of the lines.

The final space at Casa Decor which has the TAU stamp on it is in the toilets of the aforementioned cafe-bar. Of course, toilets are one space where ceramics traditionally reign supreme for hygiene reasons and because they are so easy to clean, although this does not mean that there is any need to compromise on quality and up-to-the-minute design. This is what the designer Simona Garufi was trying to do. She decided to use dark tones from TAU’s Linen series to take a fresh approach to toilet design using the geometrical series of lines which are the characteristic feature of this covering.

The success of TAU and Porcelanatto at Casa Decor Madrid 2010, even before it opens to the public, with four spaces using the two brands’ materials, is largely due to the hard work and effort put into the joint project by the Madrid-based company ALCER Azulejos y Cerámica SL. TAU presents TAUfine at the Cersaie 2009, the new large format, ultrafine concept in porcelain which is designed to revolutionise architecture and refurbishment thanks to its numerous, innovative advantages.

TAUfine is a milestone in the brand’s product catalogue, as it reduces the tile thickness by over 50%, with tiles with a minimum thickness of 5 mm.

The development of TAUfine again demonstrates TAU’s ability to create the most advanced ceramic products in the market, as a result of the work of a large team of professionals using the latest technology, a situation acknowledged on numerous occasions by organisations of experts and scientists, and which has led to multiple ceramic solutions patented exclusively by TAU.

For TAUfine, the company is launching at Cersaie in a special space, the product in two formats: the 30×60 and especially the 45×90, a large size tile revealing TAU’s technical mastery of ceramic materials, given the added difficulty of production involved in manufacturing an extremely fine product without impairing its technical or aesthetic properties. TAU also undertakes the product launch without any decorative limitations.

TAUfine is specially designed to be applied to walls, and is particularly suited to refurbishment projects, while at the same time offering excellent results in new architectural initiatives such as exteriors, facades, residential complexes or even shopping centres.

It has numerous advantages and added value. When applied, it is not necessary to remove the already existing material as its can be applied directly over the previous product, thanks to its extreme fineness.

Thus, TAUfine represents a major cost saving during the execution phase, a significant factor for domestic economies in crises such as the present one. TAUfine also reduces the use of raw materials in its manufacture, energy consumption and the generation of CO2 in the firing process, which helps to protect the environment, and also in logistic costs, as the weight of the pallets is approximately half that of the traditional pallet.

TAU, which has TAUfine in full production, aware of its capacity and the potential of the collection in the market, once its benefits and results have been fully acknowledged, uses the concept in some of the more famous models in its catalogue, such as Corten and Portland, and other new products such as Mythos, in addition to Corten Energy. In the latter, the challenge is far greater as it is a polished model, fresh evidence of TAU’s mastery in the application of new technologies.

TAU grows and evolves. The brand is currently launching new proposals in the innovative 20×60 format, a surprising, casual and versatile format which meets one of the present demands of consumers. It arrives with a wide ranging catalogue of proposals which includes all types of designs, finishes and effects, with the aim of covering the entire spectrum of needs for professionals and clients.

The collections are grouped into two movements, one very casual and young, and another, more classical and elegant, although both stand out for their sophistication and careful finish down to the tiniest detail. In the first group we find Fiber and Point, while the second style includes Arun and the TAU Luminia collection with the series Alenda-Beires and Massa-Samaná.

Fiber is dynamic, fresh and bold. Its red, wenge, blue, while and black colours make for a thousand and one combinations, all characterised by gentle, new flashes of gloss, which make it highly original. Its soft texture should also be taken into account. The whole represents a full and well-crafted harmony.

Point is a single colour proposal which stands out for the circles which form the model. Personal, lively and always changing, thanks to its numerous decorations and infinite combinations, Point is specially designed for those who wish to project their personality onto the rooms, interact with the space to make it unique and exclusive, in the form of mosaics or panels.

Point is minimalist, highly architectural and structural, and rabidly modern. Its finishes in black, grey, brown, beige and white produces an absolutely innovative result, an effect boosted by the decorations given to this model, whose circles break up the geometric interplay of the bases, largely as a result of the orange, blue, grey, pistachio and brown tones in its design. It also has mosaics in metallic, blue, green, orange and mother-of-pearl finishes in one of the most complete and personal ranges of TAU for the new season. Point perfectly combines with the wide range of single colour proposals of the Colore pavement.

Standing at the opposite end of this aesthetic line is the TAU Luminia collection, comprising the Alenda-Beires and Massa-Samaná models and Arun, three ideas which emphasise sobriety, sophistication and exclusiveness.

TAU Luminia is inspired by the classic marbles which has had a successful reception in the market and continues to grow with new creations. With a perfect finish and true to the original material which inspires them, Alenda-Beires and Massa-Samaná are two baroque decorative proposals for deluxe, refined, sophisticated ambiences… Designed for the most exclusive international markets, Alenda-Beires perfectly reproduces the splendour of emperor marble, one of the most noble and ancient materials in history. Corten Energy and Corten Night are two dynamic, forceful proposals for porcelain stoneware, which maintain the spirit of the Corten series, from the TAU Metálica collection, which takes on a new aesthetic form thanks to its inspiration by metals in their purest state. Now, Corten Energy and Corten Night have been developed using new manufacturing techniques which can polish the material to lend it a special personality, with a fire-like appearance, while creating a highly particular iridescent effect which is one of its hallmarks. Corten Night adheres to the canons of the TAU ecotile range, i.e. over 45% of the tiles’ composition uses recycled materials as part of the company’s commitment to conserve and respect the environment, one of the company’s major pledges.

The catalogue of new items which TAU is to present at Cersaie 2009 also includes such interesting products as Mythos, a porcelain stoneware which imitates the purity of classic pentelic marble, in order to capture and materialise the essence of nature in ceramics.

Refined, elegant, pure, reserved but always beautiful, Mythos is available in two versions, polished and natural, which lend it an incredible resemblance to the model on which it is inspired. Mythos is available in 25×36, 45×45, 45×90 and 60×60 formats and five chromatic tones.

Also noteworthy is that TAU has designed Corten Energy and Mythos in the TAUfine version, the new ultrafine and light porcelain which reduces the thickness by over 50% compared to the traditional models, bringing it down to 5 mm. This is an innovative proposal, ideal for rehabilitation and architecture. TAUfine is a commitment to ecology, cost saving in materials and at the forefront of construction, in line with the R&D&I which TAU has used since its beginnings and which have made it a worldwide benchmark.

TAU, coinciding with Cersaie, is also launching a new format, the 20×60, a new proposal to meet one of the new demands in the marketplace, always seeking out larger formats.

There are several models, such as Fiber and Point, two casual and highly dynamic proposals, which are highly colourful and use geometric patterns, and Arun and the TAU Luminia collection, which includes the Alenda-Beires and Massa-Samaná series, more classical, reserved and refined.

Gabbianelli has been making ceramic tiles for over 60 years, creating products whose superlative originality and style have made them a success all over the world. It all started in a simple atelier where architects and designers came together with the founder of the company to try out their ideas and designs on a ceramic medium. These were the years the building boom reached its peak: the main thing was to build fast and to build a lot. Gabbianelli had the intuition that there was not just the question of production volume, there was also the product’s aesthetics to consider, paving the way for a manufacturing method that would become widespread throughout the industry in the decades to come. The factory’s location at Milan and its close contacts with the growing design “industry” were unquestionably decisive factors in Gabbianelli’s recipe for success: how to take tiles from being a mere wall covering known for its simplicity and practicality, to a product used by interior designers. Le Trame is an original collection for floors created by Gabbianelli to complement its series of products for the home. SLIM/4 is a product for floors and walls, particularly suitable for renovation works requiring installation over existing materials and any applications for curtain walls. The reduced thickness, lighter weight, easy transportation and handling make SLIM/4 the best response to the new requirements of the market.

This material has multiple advantages:
- makes it unnecessary to remove existing installations;
- reduces work time as well as costs;
- has technical characteristics similar to slabs with traditional thickness;

JACA.s series by AZUVI faithfully emulates Phylite, a rock similar to slate with flat oval crystals like the leaves of a tree. JACA offers all the quality and beauty of Phylite, plus outstanding chemical and mechanical properties such as a high resistance to knocks, low water absorption, very low porosity, high bending strength, and high resistance to compression, atmospheric agents, frost, ice and ageing. This means that it can be used as external paving in areas subject to medium to high traffic and in cold environments.

Through-body porcelain tiles from AZUVI with a high shade variation and tiles characterised by a unique pattern on each, relief work and original looking veins. These characteristics infuse settings with a sense of dynamism, giving them a wonderfully natural look.

AUSTIN and SIERRA.s series are both classic products from AZUVI. They combine perfectly due to their colour resemblance.

They both are inspired on the Minimalism, based on soft and calm colours with the result of achieving marble and stone effects.

LENA series by AZUVI is a faithful reflection of Pulpis marble, whose most important quarry is located in Magdalena de Pulpis (Castellón).

AZUVI has obtained a through-body porcelain tiles series with an excellent design and finish. LENA is a product with shade variation, with tiles characterised by a unique pattern on each, relief work and original looking veins. These characteristics infuse settings with a sense of dynamism, giving them a wonderfully natural look.

This series fulfils the requirements to high bending strength and high resistance to knocks, atmospheric agents, frost, ice and ageing; it also has low water absorption. That is the reason why it is also used both inside and outside homes.

Its name is “Zero5,” and it’s the ultra-thin, ultra-light tile by the leading Group of the ceramic industry. Zero is perfect for use in renovations, where, thanks to its slim design, it can be laid directly onto existing tiles. A tile only 5 millimeters thick, which does not require removal of the existing surface or the old doors and windows in order to be laid, and cuts the renovator’s costs by 50-60%. RAKSLIM  is a  4.5 mm thickness tile in Gres Porcellanato offered in Matt Finish
-Great Strength of tile in comparison with the tile thickeness .

Breaking strength & modulus of rupture besides other parameters of testing all indicate the great performance of this tile. The Breaking Strength is a minimum of 700N and the Modulus of Rupture is a minimum of 40N/mm2 for models of size 30×60 with 4.5mm thick
-A significant reduction in dead load on the building structure due to almost half the weight of conventional tiling, resulting in reduced structure cost.

Laying over an existing floor

RAK SLIM is the ideal material to cover the surfaces of original floor coverings in the home or in commercial premises subject to light pedestrian traffic.

* Leave joints of at least 2 mm in width when laying a single size and, obligatorily, 3 mm when laying a combination of both sizes.
* Substrate: check that the surfaces are perfectly flat, and level them if necessary.
* Use adhesives for porcelain stoneware, choosing the most suitable type on the basis of the type of substrate.

Method of installation

* Spread a continuous film of adhesive on the floor using a 6 mm angled tooth spatula.
* Apply adhesive to the rear of the tile with a 3 mm flat tooth spatula.
* Once the tile has been positioned, tap all over the surface with a rubber spatula to maximise the anchorage.

-Installation on walls

RAK SLIM can be used as a wall covering in the home and public buildings, both indoors and outdoors.

This material is ideal for installation over existing wall coverings or to create completely new wall coverings.

* For wall coverings leave joints of at least 1 mm in width.
* Substrate: check that the surfaces are perfectly flat, and level them if necessary.
* Use adhesives for porcelain stoneware, choosing the most suitable type on the basis of the type of substrate.

Method of installation

* Spread a continuous film of adhesive on the wall using a 4 mm notched spatula.
* Offer the tile up to the wall.
* Tap all over the surface of the tile with a rubber spatula to ensure it is perfectly anchored to the substrate.
